LEED
With energy and the environment in mind, ZFS' new administration building was designed to meet silver
certification for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).
The LEED office, with its improved technology, increases ZFS'
efficiency and provides room for future growth.
A facility must achieve more than 50 percent of core credits for silver certification. To determine
that the building is environmentally friendly/green, prerequisites and credits are
given in six categories:
sustainable site, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources,
indoor environmental quality, and innovation and design process.
ZFS achieved 22 credits for LEED certification
through:
Site Selection
Didn't meet any of the prohibited criteria
Alternative Transportation
Bike rack
Reserved parking spots for alternative fuel vehicles and
carpooling vehicles
Reduced Site Disturbance
Open space exceeds local zoning requirements by 25
percent
Reserved parking spots for alternative fuel vehicles and
carpooling vehicles
Storm water treatment has at least an 80 percent
reduction in total suspended solids and a 40 percent
reduction in total phosphorus
Water Efficient Landscaping
Potable water consumption for irrigation has been
reduced by at least 50 percent through high efficiency
irrigation technology and the use of drought-tolerant and
native plants
